• Bullshit, Baloney & Big Business

Someday I will get around to writing a post about my time working at [wikipop]Tesco[/wikipop] which, I often imagined, was being run by a bunch of 7 year olds. But then you see the candidates on The Apprentice and you realise that these are 7 year olds in adult bodies. They do take themselves, and their vacuous ramblings, so seriously but it is usually little more than bullshit.

So no sniggering at the announcement from the people at Alexon (so young yet had so many jobs!) who are blaming the current cold weather (in winter?) for their lack of success. In the spring they were spouting some positive bullshit but by the summer they were blaming volcanic ash. Bollocks.

  • Good/Bad Luck & The 13th Floor Elevators

A SkepChick posted an interesting piece about the lack of 13th floors but seems to have missed (youngsters eh!) the obvious [wikipop]13th Floor Elevators[/wikipop] link…

…so there they were around 1966.

We enjoy the gradual superstition shifting on Deal or No Deal where lucky numbers and guardian angels etc. seem to be increasingly abandoned… apparently it is all just random.

  • Captain Beefheart (1941 – 2010)

I used the instrumental “Best Batch Yet” for the Jam Making Movie so here is [wikipop]Captain Beefheart[/wikipop] in 1980 with a vocal version…

The offerings on YouTube seem decidedly low Def so I shall rummage in my boxes and see what I can fish out… “if you want to be a different fish, you’ve got to jump out of the school.”… Beefheart said claiming he tried school for half a day and never went back. His high school graduation photograph somewhat counters the claim.

  • The all new snail mail online modern world

Excuse me while I bang my head against the wall…. Ah that’s better. So you move to a new address. So you need to tell the [wikipop]DVLA[/wikipop] your new address. You can fill in the new address on the back of the old driving licence and send it to them via snail mail or you can do it online. Being an online type of chap I opt for the latter. After some time filling and clicking my way through the online form I am informed that…

    Send it in!

They even have the nerve to use Online in the form’s title…

    Online?

Does [wikipop]Martha Lane Fox[/wikipop] know about this? She does not mention it. Excuse me while I print out my form and pop it and my old driving licence into an envelope, find a stamp, trudge out into the snow and post it…. roll on the [wikipop]Digital revolution[/wikipop]/[wikipop search=”Gershon Review”]Joined up government[/wikipop]/[wikipop]Brave New World[/wikipop] (Delete as appropriate).
